Monday “Did you know…” I’m starvin’.

Interesting article about difficulties losing weight.

“When you begin to lose pounds, levels of the hormone leptin, which is produced by fat cells, begin to drop. That sends a message to the brain that the body’s “fat storage” is shrinking. The brain perceives starvation is on the way and, in response, sends out messages to conserve energy and preserve calories. So, metabolism drops.” (from article)

Ever try a different eating pattern and not get any results? Possibly you were fighting this “starvation” response. Body reacted to, mostly, the calorie restriction by holding on more tightly to the fat. That emphasizes the importance of calorie cycling, a good balance of protein/fat/carb, and persistence!

Funny how our body tries to protect itself. Same is true for exercise which is why CF and Cross Fit are the way to go. Mixing it up so the body doesn’t become “used” to one particular pattern.
