Monday “Did you know…?” Don’t take two

or call us in the morning.

Interesting article about Ibuprofen and exercise, especially as it is used ritualistically prior to exercise as pain prevention (or read Times article). “The Times reports that other researchers have found in laboratory experiments on animal tissues that non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen actually slowed the healing of injured muscles, tendons, ligament, and bones.” Thanks to Gretch for forwarding this Did You Know.

BTW: If you ordered a HW Tshirt in the first round (ie, when you signed up before HW), then your Tshirt is at the gym w/ your name on it. If you ordered your HW Tshirt during HW (ie, at a HW workout), your shirts will be in next week.

This post is a great reminder to all of us to use the knowledge and intelligence we are granted to make sure we take care of ourselves. It is a great thing to put forth great effort, but we all must take some personal responsibility to think and pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. We all have limitations and we all only have one body, there are no spare parts to interchange when things go badly wrong. Unless you have access to Dan-Oh’s toolbox! Hah! But seriously we had some cases where folks got very sick this week and the seriousness of that should not be understated. I want to see each and everyone of you at the gym for a long time so please be careful; its ok to go hard but go with thought and scale your efforts when necessary. Ego’s left to there own devices can lead us down a dangerous path…and I say that with all sincerity and without judgement, because I have plenty of my own scars to prove that, that knowledge and wisdom did not come cheaply!
