When I started on this Journey at CF there were certain attitudes and ideals that were installed in me, first and foremost, Improvise, Adapt and Overcome, secondly, leave no one behind, and thirdly the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one. With that basis in mind we strive to behave appropriately. We support and acknowledge the sacrifices made by military and civilian protective forces. There is a responsibility that goes along with that, you don’t just show-up, you bring it every time you walk through the door. And when we show-up and just go through the motions we dishonor those we supposedly honor! That cannot happen, at least in my mind. Sure we all have off days and that is to be expected, but that cannot be used a systemic excuse to cut corners, use poor form or deceive the group as a whole. There is a story about a young Marine Second Lt. in Vietnam. He was a highly decorated soldier, two Bronze Stars, Two Purple Hearts and a Navy Cross. But he pushed the limits, he grew his hair right to limit of acceptable along with a mustache. His uniform was ragged and an unkempt, he looked basically, awful. One day the Battalion Commander called him in his office, and while staring out the window he said, ” You may be a highly decorated soldier and you may have proven yourself many times in battle. But you look like shit and that is unacceptable. Many have gone before you who have done more and done less but respected what it meant to wear the uniform of a U.S. Marine. Get the f@#k out of my office and go get yourself squared away Lieutenant and don’t let me see you like this again.” Walking away feeling hazed the Lt. thought to himself, he is right and I feel ashamed and I am glad he called me on my shit!

    Reminded me of a few:
James’ “tryptophan induced stupor” rant. Nice!

Rippetoe’s guide to squats (only because you two use the same, how do you call it, terminology): “Yes, if you squat wrong it f#$ks things up. If you squat correctly, those same f#$ked-up things will unf#$k themselves.”

And this post from the ol’ blog here.
