PAIN…now there is a simple four letter word that packs a bunch! How do you deal with the pain incurred during an intense workout? Do you prefer the path of least resistance, stopping, or do you push through to find that there is just another level of pain above that one? Pain to me is a mental construct that with practice, one can find a way to raise ones tolerance of it. It is temporary and the better you can deal with it, the greater the results you can achieve through suffering through it. The reality is that there is no growth without pain. It’s just one of those natural rules of the Cosmos! Nothing worthwhile is earned without effort, besides those that come easy are quickly forgotten or one becomes bored with them and looks for another source of stimulus. Now you all know I have my moments of dropping the occasional F-bomb or other four letter words during intense moments of exercise, anyone who has ever raced bikes with me could tell you some stories! Hah! Sh!t I even curse like a drunken sailor when I ride alone…But it was not until today that I learned that there is real science behind the cursing…No sh!t! Real science and I am not fu@#ing with you! In the Journal “NeuroReport” there is a published study performed at Keele University School of Psychology on 67 undergraduates…some highlights…”The study shows that swearing appears to have an analgesic effect under certain conditions” ie. intense workouts…”it accelerates the heart rate and reduces sensitivity to pain”…most interesting…”swearing led to a greater reduction in pain perception and a bigger increase in heart rate in females”…So swear away my phoolish phreaks, loudly, randomly, and proudly, because reducing the fu@#ing pain will lead to greater fu@#ing results, so you can just endure more fu@#ing pain!! Hah!
